How Long Until Most WordPress Posts are from Mobile?
WPTavern is one of the oldest and best WordPress news sites.
Jeff Chandler has been running the site for nearly 8 years now.
I spoke with Jeff a couple of weeks ago on his WPTavern podcast called WPWeekly.
We talked about the future of WordPress as well as the move towards front-end editing. Will it help users edit their content without having to navigate the back-end of WordPress or will it cause more confusion?
We talked about the new WICS system (Words Ideas Clicks Screens) aimed at determining which platform is easier to use based on a common set of tasks. WordPress scored well, especially with the task of organizing content.
One of the most interesting topics that came up in the interview was mobile. We talked about how some users are much more excited to post from their phones and the desktop.
I wondered how much longer it will be until the majority of WordPress posts are from mobile devices. I can’t imagine it happening with other CMSs, because they don’t have a default mobile app. However, I can absolutely see mobile being the default option for WordPress, and perhaps inside the next few years.
You can listen to the whole podcast below. My interview starts just after the 18 minute mark:

Worth mentioning that WPTavern essentially went out of business a while back, looked for a buyer, got one, and eventually it was revealed to be Audrey Capital/Matt Mullenweg. Or, to be precise, Jeff Chandler is now an employee of Matt’s VC fund. http://wptavern.com/about
That’s true. I’d like to have a dollar for every news site that found publishing WP / Joomla / Drupal news to be unprofitable.
I think the only model that works is a news site that’s funded by an actual business … like OSTraining / Torque Mag / WPTavern etc.
