In this first part one of a four part series, Vicki introduces you to the power of GIMP and covers the basics of installation, layers and exporting. If you’re looking for a great open source (free) alternative to Photoshop, GIMP is a great choice!

GIMP is the GNU Image Manipulation Program. It is a freely distributed piece of software for such tasks as photo retouching, image composition and image authoring. It works on many operating systems, in many languages.
